A Quality Kaizen Team of 8 production people just recently finished a 3-day Kaizen with the single focus of improving quality in manufacturing operations. This is a job shop where customer orders are typically made one unit at a time and are custom designs. Problems have been encountered due to mistakes in engineering design, mistakes in manfactured parts, and mistakes in what’s called the “measure-up process”. This team used One-Point Lessons and Mistake-Proofing to eliminate many of the root causes of the waste of poor quality and rework. This is the first kaizen of this type that had been used in this particular company. All view it as a huge success, with quite a bit of additional work to do in the future!
