The following pages provide actual examples of results other companies have achieved with Lean. These are impressive, especially given the relatively short time taken to achieve them…..in all cases shown these results were obtained in about a year after starting with Lean!
How’d they do it? With excellent leadership of the lean initiative! What this requires is:
- Commitment from the beginning.
- Lean Sensei(s) to conduct the training and guide the applications and implementation.
- Internal resources being developed along the way (Lean White Belts & Lean Green Belts).
- A systems approach vs. a “tools” process.
- Good measures at the Cell and Value Stream levels.
- Excellent leadership (basically using the Deming 14 Points and modeling them).
How many achieve results as impressive as this? Good question. Our experience shows that 3-5% of companies are actually performing at this level with Lean, another 30% are using various lean tools effectively and getting some of these results, and the balance of companies (about 67%) are still wondering how to get them.
